KETTUVALLAM |
| |
In the past …. The people living in the backwater villages used the traditional Kettuvallam for traveling and transportation of goods and produce etc. Today one may seldom find these Kettuvallam since they have been replaced by other means of faster transport.
Today’s houseboats are a modified version of the traditional Kettuvallam. Strictly built from Eco-friendly materials, these Kettuvallam have been modified without changing the traditional looks they carry. Our Houseboats comply to the specifications laid down by the Department of Tourism, Govt. of Kerala.
Often our houseboats are rated by our guests as Floating palaces. With well appointed double bedrooms attached with European style bathrooms, a living room cum dining room, a sun-bathing deck and a modern kitchen. Our houseboats are indeed in every sense.. Floating palaces.

CANOE |
| |
For those who would like to experience village life at close quarters in between the houseboat trip, we would recommend a canoe trip. The canoe will take you through the narrowest canal in the backwaters and in between you take a walk through the villages, mingle with the natives…taste some fresh toddy…or the delicious backwater cuisine…the choice is endless… |

STANDARD HOUSEBOATS |
| |
Traditionally, the houseboat was called Kettuvallam, which means a boat made by tying together pieces of wood. Unbelievable as it may sound, not a single nail is used in the making of a Kettuvallam. Jack wood planks are joined together with coir rope and then coated with black resin made from boiled cashew nut shells. The materials that go into the making are all local and Eco friendly bamboo poles, coconut fiber ropes, bamboo mats, coir carpets etc These traditional country boats were used as the mode of transport in the early times from the isolated interior villages to the towns. But these boat services have been laid off with the developments taken place in the transport services in the recent past. Today these giant 80-foot long crafts have been adapted into luxuriously furnished houseboats. |
